Mark Burnett was born on July 17, 1960, in London, England.

He served in the Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland from 1978 to 1982 and also participated in the Falkland Islands campaign during that period.

Transition to Television

Upon leaving the military in 1982, Burnett moved to Los Angeles, where he initially worked a series of odd jobs, including as a nanny and a T-shirt vendor at a beach.

He eventually landed in television, serving as a producer on the shows "Survivor" and "Eco-Challenge."
