  • Locomotive that hauled the funeral train of a King to visit North Wales this week

    The locomotve which hauled the train carrying the coffin of King George VI to London 70 years ago could be seen in parts of North Wales later this week.

    Steam engine 70000 Britannia was just over a year old when it carried out its sad duty in February 1952.

    Now privately owned the locomotive is due to haul a test train from Crewe on Thursday.

    It is due to run from Kidderminster to Crewe on Wednesday.

    The loco and its train is due to leave Crewe's platform 12 at 10.09am on February 17 for Chester where it is due to arrive at 10.40am for a brief stop.

    Leaving the border city at 10.45am the train will leave the North Wales main line at Saltney junction and head south towards Wrexham Generl station at 11am.
